Ah yes, the college football season is officially over. Time to rest up a bit, kick back, and reflect on what was great and what was terrible for the 2011-2012 college football season. Go ahead, I’ll still be here. ….(time passes)…. OKAY. So now that we’ve all mused about gridiron, let’s get down to brass tacks. There’s winds of change a blowing and they will twirl the leaves around this here blog. What’s going to happen? Tune in next week. We still have some Crib Sheet action to go over so let’s go right ahead and knock it out:

West Virginia wasn’t too busy trying to get out from underneath the Big East to try to also get out of their September 8th football game against Florida International. Big change should be coming for the Mountaineers but there’s some legal issues that’s trying to slow them down. We’ll see them in the Big 12 here shortly.

Kansas State’s Defensive end Meshak Williams was carted off the Cotton Bowl field last week with a neck injury. Let’s hope he gets better soon.

An 8 year contract extension is what you get when you win the Fiesta Bowl. Just ask Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy. T. Boone and company needed to lock him up quick. They’ve had too many good coaches take off for greener pastures.

Texas A&M is shaking their tiny stick again. The Denver Broncos Sunday had a parachuter drop in with a 12th Man sign tied to him. That’s a no no. The Aggies own the trademark and threatened to sue the hell out of them over it. Ugh. I’m glad those poor sports are out of the Big 12.

So LSU’s Les Mile was named Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year before the turd he laid on the field and then ate at the BCS National Championship Game. I checked the online voting and Kansas State’s Bill Snyder was way ahead. What’s with the selection process? On second though, Snyder 2.0 did get a little too cute to start out that Cotton Bowl. He got out coached too.

Speaking of that turd of a game, there was another debacle with fans having tickets to the game getting bumped for extra media space. A dozen fans showed up to their seats taken but ended up getting closer seats. The point I’m trying to make is that the sports media sucks. That’s all.

Four players from the Big 12 are freshman All-Americans, including Kansas State’s Tyler Lockett. Congratulations to all who got the honors.

For what it’s worth, the BCS National Championship Game got the lowest ever television rating for the game. Um, yep. Nobody wanted to watch that turd of a game. Expect big changes because of this.

It’s now official: Robert Griffin III is headed to the NFL Draft. Yes, there were reports but he was mulling it over. I’m not sure Baylor will be as good next year.

We didn’t get all of our wishes, though, as Landry Jones is sticking with the Sooners for another season. They are now automatically picked to win the Big 12. No seriously, it’s in the bylaws.

Ah yes, new plans for expansion at Bill Snyder Family Stadium have been released. I will more than likely make a trip out there to see the changes once it’s done. I’m counting down the days.

ESPN analyst Holly Rowe forearm shivers another reporter to get dibs on Michigan’s Brady Hoke after the Sugar Bowl. Dude, sign here up somewhere. She could make some sweet moves on the field.

The MAC will realign the football divisions with UMass joining the league in football only. The BIG GAME between California and Stanford has been moved back to October. College football realignment causes some wacky things to happen.

Speaking of the big changes mentioned earlier, The BCS planned on and met Tuesday to discuss changes. Amongst that, Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson called for changes. Heck, even SEC commissioner Mike Slive expects some change. A source has already mentioned that a playoff is a done deal.

Yup, I waited another day because the BCS Championship game was the last one on the docket for the Stick It series and it didn’t make sense to hype it up any more than it has been. Plus, I was recovering from drowning my sorrows brought upon me by Kansas State’s loss in the Cotton Bowl. So let’s wrap up this year’s Bowl Pick It and Stick It in style: by not talking about the title game. More on that in a second but first let us go over the final standings:

Klein vs Ditka-Who would win? ran away with the title. There’s no disputing that. Not only did he blow the door off the points, but he also had the correct number of picks. So that pretty much settled that. As for everybody else, well, it was a good shot but not good enough. Kinda like how Kansas State did in the Cotton Bowl. I, on the other hand, didn’t do so hot but at least I didn’t end up in last place.

So you probably caught wind that Kansas State lost the Cotton Bowl. Arkansas was just in another league from Kansas State. Sure, the SEC. I’m over it now because I know that Kansas State had a fantastic year. They were picked to be near last in the Big 12 but they ended up 2nd in the league and #8 in the BCS. I know that there were other games going on after the Cotton Bowl but that was the season ender for me. It’s been a great year, I’m glad you could join me on the ride.

Yup, we have a handful of games to go for this bowl season. It’s been a pretty great run so far. The weekend saw some great finishes and exciting shootouts. I’m going to miss college football much like everyone else out there after the last whistle blows. Until that whistle tweets its last tweet, we got a few more Crib Sheets to pass around as well. The news wasn’t too quiet as we get to see more coaching changes and draft declarations now. So let’s get right down to it:

Miami is going to pay back about $83,000 in donations received by Nevin Shapiro. I’m pretty sure this guy gave more and it’s only a matter of time before we see even more money given back. It’s still not going to save much face for the university. It will take a couple of years, maybe longer, for this to blow over.

The SkyCam fell to the ground during the Insight Bowl. I think this is the first time I’ve heard of an accident like this happening. It’s a good thing that no one got hurt.

The ‘Occupy’ movement decided to crash the Rose Bowl parade. You know, because they have nothing better to do. Maybe they can be helpful and clean up after the parade or something.

Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon had an amazing Fiesta Bowl and pretty much declared for the NFL Draft right after the game. There’s been rumblings of him doing some naughty NCAA things so it’s high time he cashes in his talent.

For anyone who was wondering, the Cotton Bowl will be on the Friday after New Year’s in prime time. It’s working well and we should see the Cotton Bowl turn into a BCS Bowl real quick.

During the Fiesta Bowl, Pac 12 Commissioner Larry Scott mentioned to reporters that he’d like to see a Stanford vs. Notre Dame game in China. Now that’s forward thinking. There should be some bowls overseas too. Let’s go crazy with this. The more college football fans the merrier.

New Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is already getting with technology today and banning it. Yup, no Twitter for Buckeyes. It’s been banned. That’s not going to help things out at all. The better thing is to teach the players how to talk to the media or the outside world. Now that would be way more helpful.

Kansas head coach Charlie Weiss got another former Notre Dame buddy under his staff by the name of Rob Ianello. Ianello just got canned by Akron so it beats sitting at home doing nothing.

Oregon player Mark Asper gave the Heimlich maneuver on a choking restaurateur while chowing down on some Rose Bowl dinner with the teams. Good for him. Not only for the great meal he got for free, but for also saving a life.

Texas Tech’s defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow left the program after one season. I’m not sure if he was forced out or he just up and left. The Red Raiders missed a bowl for the first time in forever so they had to make some changes.

It’s weird getting ready to sit down and watch college football on January 2nd versus watching it on New Year’s Day. Usually, I would stumble over late to a friend’s house to kick off the new year by watching football, gloming myself with food, getting drunk, playing some board games, and being as lazy as humanly possible. This year, it’s watching everything online, eating some food, and not making a singular play on a game of boards. The good thing is that I can adjust. Unfortunately, the adjustments don’t look so hot for my Bowl Pick It and Stick It Standings. Let’s take a look:

Wolfpack took the lead from Klein vs Ditka-Who would win? The great thing is the last few games will determine real quick who the winner is. There’s still some big confidence points floating out there. I’m not sure how the middle of the pack will fare between the two leaders. What I do know is that it will be real hard for me to not bring up the rear this year. It’s partly because of missed games but it’s more of the missed pick running toward the end. That’s what I get for not adjusting my confidence points.

While I was coming back from Kansas City to Austin and getting used to the swing of things again, the Big 12 had a couple of games. I was about 100% correct so far on those picks. Iowa State carried the Big 12 curse into the Pinstripe Bowl and last big to Rutgers. Missouri, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Baylor all won their games. At least the newly anointed SEC luddites in Missouri and Texas A&M helped out the Big 12 one last time. The best game of the bunch was definitely Baylor shooting out Washington. Both teams scored more points than Baylor’s basketball team that night. And Baylor won both games.

The Big 12 has two games left this week. First off, we get the Fiesta Bowl tonight where Oklahoma State will take on Stanford. That one should be a great shootout as well. Later on this Friday, it’s Kansas State taking on Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl. I still don’t know what to feel about this one and will spit it out later on this week. So in the meantime, lean back and enjoy the last truly great day of football for about 7 months.

I think I’m eating way more than I did when I was on vacation. The holidays were tasty but between running around to visit people and sipping a couple of barley pops left me with little time to eat well. Now that I am back, I find my fingers in the candy bowl that filled up from the stockings left before the trip. Oh well, I guess. Tis the season. I know one thing, after the new year and the end of bowl season, it’s mega workout time. One item that will mostly be fat throughout the year is the Crib Sheet. So let’s get munching:

Robert Griffin III is your AP Player of the Year. Well, duh. He won the Heisman. The field was so wide open this year that anybody could’ve won the Heisman. So instead of trying to stir controversy, the AP decided to frontrun. That’s fine with me.

The Fiesta Bowl ticket scandal will not help prosecute politicians. You know, because they are guilty doing nothing wrong. Ever. We’ll just have to find some other way to rattle their cages I guess.

The quarterback heavy league that is the Big 12 just got a little bit heavier. Former Notre Dame standout Dayne Crist and BYU transfer Jake Heaps both committed to Kansas. It looks like Charlie Weiss is moving big ground with his front butt recruiting strategy.

Texas A&M senior lineman Joseph Villavisencio was killed in a car crash while delivering holiday gifts last week. My condolences goes out to his friends and family.

Iowa State offensive coordinator Tom Herman is moving on to Urban Meyer’s Ohio State of all places. Let’s hope it’s the last of the poaching from the Big 12 that the Buckeyes do.

So enough people complained about the Orange Bowl getting a cigar sponsorship that it forced them to end the partnership with said cigar company. The PR cost of the deal ended up being more than the actual cash.

Truman, Missouri’s mascot, knocked over and broke the Independence Bowl trophy before the game Monday. It’s a good thing that Missouri ended up winning the game because the Tigers would’ve looked even dumber for the whole incident. What a great way to exit the Big 12, guys.

So some schools already complained enough to nix the $2000 bump in pay for student athletes. Now others are trying to pull the plug on multiyear scholarships. You know, it’s getting to the point where it just needs to turn all pro or at least be minor league in status. Schools are broke and can’t afford the changes. The kids aren’t getting enough for they do. Make it minor league with credits to colleges or something. It’s only gonna get worse.

The Big 12 and West Virginia will have to wait longer start their relationship. A judge denied the motion to dismiss the case the Big East brought up against the school. There will be some kind of money settlement out of this coming soon.

The Big 10 and the Pac 12 will have at least one non-conference game against each school starting in 2017. This is the kind of series that other conferences needs to have. Just think if the Big 12 and SEC did something like this. By that time we’ll see Notre Dame in the Big 12 so it would make things much more intriguing.

And all through the house, we had present unwrapping hangovers with eggnog thirst doused. Oh wait, it’s not a poem I’m writing here, it’s the Bowl Pick It and Stick standings update! Christmas scored well with me and I hope the holiday was in your top 5. There was just a sprinkle of games in the last week, with the brunt of the bowls starting this afternoon with Missouri and North Carolina in the Independence Bowl. So, with confidence points teetering the scores wildly, how did everyone in the pick set do? Let’s find out.

Yeah, that’s right, I’m last. I still ended up missing a pick before filling out my set. But since then, I’ve won 2. Not bad considering. Of course, part of the strategy for me is that I’m not setting the confidence points. So the points possible will be going from 1 to 35. So even though I missed about 4 or 5 picks, I only ate about 20 points. Back on the front end, Klein vs. Ditka-Who would win? has the outright lead. Not only has he been near perfect, but he front loaded some confidence points to be up by 29. Good job guy.

So this week we have the Big 12 bowls kicking off. I’m thinking Missouri will knock off North Carolina in the Independence Bowl to show off in front of their new brothers in the SEC. Texas will more than likely beat up on California in the Holiday Bowl. Baylor should knock off Washington in the Alamo Bowl. I just don’t know how Iowa State will do with the almost home team of Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl. I think they will squeeze one out. Oklahoma may be let down against Iowa in the Insight Bowl, but the Hawkeyes are out two starting running backs. Texas A&M will choke again at the Car Care Bowl against Northwestern. Tune in next week for some tasty updates.

Yes! Christmas vacation starts today for me! I remember back in the day how Christmas vacation lasted way longer than just a week, but I’ll take what I can get. Back in the day I used only a couple of crib sheets and you’ll be seeing one today. The news is not as light as I would like but I’m forging on. Bowl season and the holiday season is upon us so it’s time to celebrate! On with the crib sheet!

Texas wide receiver Darius White isn’t happy with the PT he’s getting so he’s transferring.

Turner Gill found a job real quick. He’s your new FCS division Liberty head coach. You know, after his stint at Buffalo and Kansas, he could use a quiet time somewhere else to build his chops back up.

Speaking of head coaches, Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy won the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award. He beat out my boy Bill Snyder 2.0. Billy did get a bunch of COTY awards so it’s nice to see the love to spread around the Big 12. Meanwhile, LSU’s Les Miles wins the AP Coach of the Year.

Ugh, another national campaign from a lobbying group to get college football playoffs. The “We Want A Playoff Now” kicked off last week with former congress types running the circus. The politicians need to stay out of this. I gave in to the whole playoff thing earlier this year, as much as I hate it. It’s not going to take congress. It’s going to come from some smart guy who manages to jack up the profits from the games to an even higher number.

Meanwhile, the NCAA put the brakes on the bumping the $2,000 increase for cost of living for student athletes. Enough schools complained about the rising cost (125) to influence the NCAA. I get it. The smaller schools can’t afford the extra cost. But you’ll just see agents and players working closer now because of this.

Is Paul Rhoads a lifer in Iowa State? The 10 year contract extension he just got seems to indicate that. I’m not totally on board. If he somehow gets a consistent bowl improvement from his team, someone’s gotta be knocking at his door. The prospect for more cash is just too big.

Daniel ‘Rudy’ Ruettiger has been charged with fraud by the SEC. He founded a sports drink with his name on it but it stunk. So he conspired with other people to inflate the price and the SEC caught him on it. Doh! I remember seeing this guy talk in my high school one time. He seemed like a nice fellow. I guess he made some bad decision. It’s not like you can live off one play in college football forever.

Congratulations to Pittsburgh State, who won the Division II football title over Wayne State. You have to remember that there are plenty of local successful football teams around the Kansas City area not named Kansas State.

You know, the Orange Bowl couldn’t have been so blind as to not expect complaints from health groups when they signed a deal with a Florida cigar company. So now there’s some press about groups complaining how it would improperly influence kids to smoke cigars. I’m not sure how much the Orange Bowl will pay attention to it.

Ohio State will lose some more scholarships and be banned from a bowl next year as the NCAA announced more penalties against the Buckeyes for their rules violations. They were eligible for the death penalty. I guess the NCAA went light on them.

Craig James IS going to run for Senate here in Texas. I say good luck and hopefully good riddance to his appearances on sports television. If he wins, which I doubt, we know that his baby boy Adam has a job locked up there without trying.

Alrighty, we are back after a major kick off to the bowl season! Um, okay it wasn’t that major. We had three bowls Saturday and that was about it. The weekend’s bouts featured on of the funniest sounding bowl names (Idaho Potato) as well as one of the funniest sounding matchups (San Diego State vs Louisiana Lafayette). Only one game was a dud but the others provided some late game excitement. I didn’t really watch them as much because of real day job work, but I caught enough of it to be happy bowl season started. Let’s look at the standings:

In no surprise whatsoever, I’m in last! I missed all of my picks. I wish we had the spread coverage back. Now one thing you will notice is that I have 0 remaining points. That’s because I did not take the time yet to fill out the rest of my bowl picks. I have time before each game to make my pick and will spent a little more time coming up with some winners. In the meantime, Klein vs Ditka-Who would win? has a commanding lead thanks to the 16 point token of confidence he laid down on Temple’s beat down of Wyoming. Ah but the game has just begun. Tune next week for another tasty update.
